DESCRIPTION: MOISTURE PENETRATION RATE 0.00+0.00cm/hr
ILEX SKIN PROTECTANT PASTE is a Biomedical topical skin barrier for use on a wide variety of dermal wounds and mild to severe skin irritations. ILEX is hydro active and helps prevent EXTERNAL MICROBIAL INFILTRATION ON CUTS, ABRASIONS, WOUNDS, MINOR BURNS, MOIST WEEPY
WOUNDS, and forms an occlusive barrier. Effective against digestive and urinary acids and enzymes and wound exudates. ILEX is alcohol and latex free and not absorbed systemically so it is safe on all skin types including Neonates, Pediatrics, as well as the Geriatric patient. ILEX can be used safely in conjunction with other prescribed topicals including antifungal, antibiotic, and steroid indicated therapy. ILEX is the only skin barrier that exhibits a 0.00 cmh moisture penetration rate.
ILEX IS A VERY EFFECTIVE TOOL FOR MOTHERS UNABLE TO CHANGE DIAPERS FOR PROLONGED PERIODS OF TIME. Ilex maintains excellent skin protection and effectively prevents diaper rash from occurring in these cases.
INDICATIONS:
ILEX is indicated for the prevention and treatment of mild to severe skin irritations and excoriations resulting from a wide range of skin breakdown associated with
Cuts, Abrasions, Wounds, Minor burns, Ostomies, (all types), G-Tube placement, severe skin breakdown resulting from
Pull-Through Procedures in infants and children, J-Pouch surgery, Fecal Fistulas, surgical and traumatic wounds with caustic drainage which result in skin breakdown. First and Second Degree burns have been treated successfully with iLEX when used as an occlusive, spread able dressing.
ILEX promotes rapid healing, and HELPS PREVENT EXTERNAL MICROBIAL INFILTRATION AND EXTERNAL WOUND CONTAMINATION. REMAINS INTACT UNDER WATER.
GENERAL DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
Clean the area to be treated as directed by the ET Nurse or Physician or per protocol. For preventing external microbial infiltration on cuts and abrasions, apply a light coating to effected areas. Use the least amount of strokes to spread the iLEX as possible. (NOTE): If iLEX starts to granulate, apply a little more iLEX over the existing layer. The amount used will vary with the needs of each patient. For treating an Ostomy, apply a light layer of iLEX directly around and up to the stoma and irritated areas at each appliance change. An adjunct adhesive preparation may be applied on top of iLEX to assist with adhesion of the appliance. ILEX provides a tight seal at the site of the stoma and protects the area of clearance between the stoma and the appliance wafer thus protects the skin from digestive enzymes from contacting the exposed skin. The soothing properties of iLEX will often provide immediate relief from discomfort during appliance and diaper changes, allowing for better skin care and patient compliance in the management of their home care. Do not attempt to forcibly remove any remaining residue of iLEX on excoriated areas. This residue should be left in place so as not to injure sensitive and weeping skin tissue. Simply apply
ILEX over the remaining residue.
FOR OSTOMY CARE:
IMPORTANT: When using iLEX® Skin Protectant Paste beyond the
perimeter of the stoma, an adjunct adhesive spray should be applied over
the iLEX to assist with adhesion of the appliance.
G-TUBES, FECAL FISTULA, WOUND EXUDATE, ETC.:
iLEX® Skin Protectant Paste has proven to be a valuable asset in
treating and preventing irritations resulting from G-Tube placement and
fecal fistula. iLEX is hydroactive and protects the skin against gastric
acids, and enzymes commonly associated with these procedures.
PROCEDURE:
Clean the skin surrounding these areas as directed by the ET Nurse or
Physician or per protocol then follow the basic procedure as described
for use with ostomies. iLEX® Skin Protectant Paste can also be used
to protect and treat irritations resulting from wound exudate. Spread a
layer of iLEX around the perimeter of the wound. If a dressing is used
apply a coating of petroleum jelly over the iLEX to prevent the dressing
from sticking. Dressing changes and their frequency will depend on the
type of wound, the treatment prescribed, and the patient's needs. Any moist
weeping wound that causes irritation to adjoining normal skin can benefit
from having iLEX® Skin Protectant Paste added to the patient's therapy
and treatment regimen. iLEX® Skin Protectant Paste can also be used
to maintain prescribed topical medications to wounds to form an occlusive
dressing while providing a moist healing environment. It protects against
external bacteria. Apply prescribed medication to wound, then coat with
a layer of iLEX followed by a coating of petroleum jelly then apply the
dressing.
PEDIATRlC INCONTINENCE:
iLEX® Skin Protectant Paste provides an effective barrier against
the devastating effects of urine and feces in the perianal region. iLEX
contains no alcohol and will adhere to denuded weeping tissue without discomfort
to the patient. iLEX is especlally effective in the pediatric patient where
systematic absorbtion of toxic substances such as alcohol are contraindicated.
iLEX may be used in conjunction with prescribed topical agents such as
antifungal and antibacterials, that must be maintained and protected on
the site being treated.
IMPORTANT
A coating of petroleum jelly should be appllied over iLEX in the
perianal area to prevent the buttocks (gluteal crease) and the diaper from
sticking. When cleansing, only the petroleum jelly should be wiped off
leaving the iLEX in tact, then reapply petroleum jelly over iLEX. This
procedure should minimize any trauma to already irritated skin.
PROCEDURE:
Clean the perianal area with a mild antibacterial soap and inspect for
signs of underlying fungal infection. If fungal infection is present, apply
an antifungal powder to the area being treated, and follow with the applcation
of iLEX® Skin Protectant Paste. Apply a layer of petroleum jelly over
the iLEX to prevent sticking of the gluteal crease and the diaper. After
each stool, wipe off the petroleum jelly only, while leaving the iLEX in
tact and simply reapply petroleum jelly over the iLEX. As the denuded areas
heal, iLEX® Skin Protectant Paste may be cleaned with a mild antibacterial
soap. This procedure may also be used treating the geriatric patient.
